National Guard Civil Support Teams for Weapons of Mass Destruction, (CST/WMD) units support civilian authorities during incidents involving chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, or high-yield explosive weapons, (CBRNE). Teams are composed of 22 full-time Army and Air National Guard personnel.
CST/WMD units identify CBRNE agents, assess consequences, and advise on response measures. They use specialized equipment and laboratories to test for hazards. While working with local emergency responders to mitigate a CBRNE incident.
Each state, Washington D.C., and U.S. territory has at least one CST/WMD.
